The Philippine Nutrition Cluster, represented by Ms. Margarita DC. Enriquez and Ms. Jeline Marie M. Corpuz, both Nutrition Officers of the National Nutrition Council joined the first ever organized Global Nutrition Cluster Training on Information Management (IM). They were joined by other Information Managers from government and UN agencies from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Pakistan, Ukraine, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Yemen.
Trainers are from RedR UK and the Global Nutrition Cluster. Both organizations help improve the effectiveness of humanitarian response programmes by developing skills and providing expertise to organizations and humanitarian actors across the world, prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural and human-induced disasters.
Using the newly launched IM Tool Kit, the training hopes to develop knowledge and skills in nutrition cluster information management and their application in the various elements of the humanitarian programme cycle to ensure support for all core nutrition cluster functions. The training uses lectures, group discussions and computer-based hands-on exercises and case study of countries affected by major emergencies and disasters as examples. The training also highlights the importance of implementing evidence-based activities through adequate information support.
The 5-day training runs from 8 – 12 August 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya. For the Philippines, a roll-out training for national and regional level information managers will be conducted in September jointly by the NNC and UNICEF with technical support from the Global Nutrition Cluster.
