The National Nutrition Council's Radyo Mo sa Nutrisyon did it again as it received its 3rd trophy as the Most Development-Oriented Public Service Program (General Award for national or nationwide category) at the 12th Gandingan UPLB Isko't Iska Multi-Media Awards. Its hosts, NNC'S Executive Director IV Assistant Secretary of Health Maria-Bernardita T. Flores, for the third time, and DZXL veteran broadcaster Rod Marcelino were also recognized as Best AM Program Hosts (General Award) during the awarding ceremony held on 17 March 2018 at University of the Philippines Los Baños in Laguna.
Radyo Mo sa Nutrisyon airs over Radio Mindanao Network - DZXL and in seven other RMN local stations every Saturday, 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. To expand its reach, the award-winning radio program is also aired over the Internet via Youtube (RadyoMosaNutrisyonYr8), Facebook (RadyoMosaNutrisyon), Radio Mindanao Network Facebook live and over television via Cignal TV Channel 309.
The winning entry for this year's award is the topic entitled "Bawal na Gamot, sa Lipunan ay Salot". The discussion in the episode highlighted the reasons why one should not even consider curiosity and peer pressure to get hooked on illegal substances. Listeners were informed of the government's programs against illegal drugs through the resource speaker from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Radyo Mo sa Nutrisyon started airing in 2008 to educate Filipinos about correct information on nutrition and health-related issues and provide updates on various efforts of other government agencies in addressing hunger and malnutrition. Aside from Gandingan, the program has been a recipient of various prestigious award-giving bodies in the country.
NNC's other radio program, Katumbas ay Biyaya aired over DZRH every Saturday from 10:30-11:00 am, was a finalist for three Gandingan award categories namely: Best AM Program Host (for A/Sec Flores and DZRH veteran broadcaster Reynaldo Sibayan), Most Development-Oriented AM Program and Most Development-Oriented Public Service Program.
Gandingan Awards is organized by UPLB Community Broadcaster's Society, Inc., the only student organization award-giving body. This year's awarding with the theme "Lipad tungo sa Kapayapaan" aims to recognize multi-media personalities, programs, websites and networks that have created extra efforts to provide information, as well as provide venue for debate and discussion about the current peace and order situation in the country and worldwide.
