The 2019 Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Executive Committee Retreat concluded on 29 January at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland where members, including Assistant Secretary of Health and NNC Executive Director Maria-Bernardita Flores, reflected on joint efforts of the Movement in the past to scale up nutrition and plan the progress of the SUN Movement with a goal of ending all forms of malnutrition by 2030.
The SUN ExeCom also worked in breakout groups to tackle governance and stewardship, capacity development and knowledge sharing. ASec/ED Flores facilitated the breakout group on the 2019 SUN Global Gathering, which tackled the objectives, timing, host country selection, themes, among other concerns.
During the reporting period, the SUN ExeCom approved a creation of a 3-person team consisting of the focal points of Senegal and the Philippines, and the Director for Nutrition of the World Food Programme to assist the SUN Movement Secretariat to further work on the details of the Global Gathering.
Moreover, ASec/ED Flores was selected as chair of the Election Committee, which later on announced the chairpersonship of Meera Shekar of Global Nutrition of the World Bank vice Shawn Baker of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The meeting also offered a platform for committee members to present their thoughts and indivual contributions for the attainment of the Movement's objectives.
