mandaluyong zumba 2015As part of the 2015 Nutrition Month celebration, the NNC joined the City of Mandaluyong in its largest Zumba class to show, not only to the Philippines but to the whole world, that being physically active is the way to go to achieve good health. And in the process, the Philippines once again made a buzz in the global arena as it set another world record with the largest Zumba class held in a single venue.

A total of 12, 975 people dressed in bright yellow shirts danced their way for the Guinness World Records on the streets of Mandaluyong City, early morning of July 19.

Organized by the local government of Mandaluyong City, the one-hour non-stop Zumba session is one of the city’s ways to promote healthy lifestyle in the community in celebration of the 2015 Nutrition Month with the theme, “Timbang iwasto sa tamang nutrisyon at ehersisyo!”

Guinness World Records Adjudicator Mr. Allan Pixley confirmed the record had been achieved beating the previous world record held by Cebu City with 8,232 participants, nine months ago.

In her message, Assistant Secretary of Health and NNC Executive Director Maria-Bernardita T. Flores commended the local government of Mandaluyong City for organizing the Zumba Caravan. “Saludo ako sa LGU ng Mandaluyong sa pag-organisa ng Zumba Caravan na ito. Hindi lang nito hinihikayat na magkaroon ng aktibong pamumuhay ang mga taga-Mandaluyong, ngunit nagsisilbi pa itong mabuting halimbawa para sa mga karatig na siyudad nito at ibang lokal na pamahalaan ang kahalagahan ng ehersisyo para mapanatili ang kalusugan ng mamamayan”, ASec Flores said.

The Zumba Caravan is a project of the city’s first lady who is also the City Nutrition Action Officer and President of the Nutrition Action Officers Association of the Philippines, Ms. Carmencita Abalos.
