For four Sundays of August, the National Nutrition Council joined GMA News TV’s Idol sa Kusina with Chef Boy Logro in preparing meals that are healthy yet affordable for the family. The featured recipes are based on NNC’s recipe book “Mga Lutuing Gulay Araw-arawin: Simple, Mura, at Masustansiya!” including Ampalaya Sisig, Saluyot Burger, Kalabasa Pancit, and Veggie Siomai.
The Idol sa Kusina feature highlighted the Pinggang Pinoy – a food plate model that conveys right food group proportions, and the 10 Kumainments, which is the popularized version of the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos. Members of the NNC Secretariat served as resource persons to discuss ways of eating healthy using the Pinggang Pinoy as guide. Chef Boy Logro and co-host Bettina Carlos prepared sample Pinggang Pinoy meals that include the featured recipe. Different ways to reduce and prevent overweight and obesity were discussed especially among school children. Tips for parents and caregivers were also shared.
The segments over Idol sa Kusina are part of NNC’s continuing promotion on overweight and obesity prevention in line with the 2015 Nutrition Month Theme: “Timbang iwasto sa tamang nutrisyon at ehersisyo!”
The featured recipes can be viewed and downloaded here.
The NNC encourages all sectors to continue efforts in preventing overweight and obesity throughout the year. NNC coordinates with national and local governments, non-government organizations, private sector, media, the academe, and other stakeholders to increase awareness about the prevention and management of overweight and obesity through proper nutrition and physical activity among Filipinos.
