The MELLPI Pro roll-out training conducted on April 2-3, 2019 in the province of Masbate officially concludes the series of roll-out trainings on the Updated Monitoring and Evaluation Protocol for Local Government Units (LGUs) in the Bicol Region. Schedules of the training for the other provinces started with Camarines Norte on March 11-12, followed by Catanduanes on March 18-19, Camarines Sur composed of 2 batches held on March 19-20 and March 28-29, and Albay on March 21-22.
The trainings were attended by a total of 244 participants, composed mostly of Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (MNAOs), other members of the Municipal/Provincial Nutrition Committees, representatives from various agencies such as from the planning, social welfare, and nutritionists-dietitians. Those who were trained by the region during the Training of Trainors conducted last February 28-March 1 served as the trainors for the roll-out training with the assistance of NNC RO V technical staff.

The 9th National Conference of Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program was conducted last January 15-17, 2019 at the Mansion Iloilo City. Organized by National Nutrition Council and MQ Media Zone Production and attended by 44 Nutriskwela Community Radio Stations all over the country including 97.3 Radyo Kalumonan, San Isidro, Davao Oriental and 101.3 Radyo Kahimunan, Laak Compostela Valley both from Davao Region.
On the 1st Day of the conference, Ms. Jovita B. Raval, Nutrition Officer V and Chief of the Nutrition Information and Education Division of NNC, discussed the Updates of the Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program highlighting the plan of NNC and MQ Media Zone Production of conduct a training of station personnel. 20 slots for station personnel allotted to join the national training for expansion areas. Radyo Kahimunan of Laak, ComVal was included to the list of Radio Stations who were qualified per NTC Technical Evaluation of upgrading transmitters from 100 watts to 300 watts. Mr. Salunga on his presentation, discussed the OPT Plus and the trends in the Nutrition Status of Areas with Nutriskwela Community Radio Station. 97.3 Radyo Kalumonan of Nutriskwela Phase 2 showed a great decrease in number of Underweight from 2008 to 2018. While 101.3 Radyo Kahimunan of Nutriskwela Phase 5 also showed a great decrease in number of Stunting and Underweight from 2015 to 2017.
On the 2nd Day of the conference, all the delegates traveled to Sibalom, Antique, to visit 88.5 Radyo Kaabyanan as part of their Radio Tour activity and bench marking. The Regional Director of National Telecommunications Commission Regional Office VI, Mr. Nestor Antonio P. Monroy, was also invited to talk about Rules and Regulations on Radio Broadcast.
The highlight of the National Conference of Nutriskwela was the Annual Awarding of outstanding performers from individual category to per station performances participated by the Nutriskwela Community Radio Stations who submitted their entries. Luckily, Juliet Mendoza A.K.A Ate Pichay of 97.3 Radyo Kalumonan, managed to be a finalist on the Best Female Broadcaster Category.

Legazpi City – After the ECCD Phase 3 Training of Trainers conducted on 18-19 October at Villa Caceres Hotel, Naga City, 0-36 months old children in the Bicol Region will soon undergo assessment of their development milestones.
All the four (4) ECCD pilot areas had complete participants together with those from DOH, DSWD, NNC, NDAP CamSur, and those from the Provincial Nutrition Committee. Thirty (30) participants mostly from Bato, Libmanan, Sipocot, and Iriga City took their turn assessing children 0-36 months from Brgy. Pequeña, Naga City using the ECCD checklist. With various types of toys utilized during the practice assessment, many of the children present had fun playing with the ball, rattle, truck and other toys contained in the ECCD kit.
Led by Ms. Henedina V. Betito, ECCD F1K Provincial Nutrition Coordinator in Camarines Sur and Cathy Austria, RNET member and representative of NDAP Camarines Sur, the third phase of the ECCD F1K Program was conducted to capacitate the local ECCD Technical Working Group on how to assess the developmental milestones of children using the ECCD Checklist. The said checklist was designed for ECCD providers like rural health midwives, child-development workers, and other health and nutrition workers to be able to determine if a child is developing adequately or is at risk for developmental delays.
