SUNEPBAGUIO CITY, Mar. 31 (PIA) - The implementation of nutrition education for Pantawid families through the Family Development Sessions (FDS) gets the support anew of the Regional Nutrition Committee(RNC).

The RNC recently approved a resolution for the continuing support of the Pabasa sa Nutrisyon for Pantawid Families following its successful implementation in Abra.

The Pabasa sa Nutrisyon aims to enhance nutrition education among Pantawid families through additional modules on nutrition in the FDS towards an improved nutritional status of children, and other vulnerable groups like pregnant and lactating mother.

Nutrition Officer Nancy Paclos reported that the program was conducted in three municipalities of Abra namely Tineg, Malibcong and Lacub covering 974 families from September –December 2016 with the involvement of the municipal links and nurses under the Nurses Deployment Program of the Department of Health (DOH).

Based on the results of the post-test and feedback from the participants, it has been noted that increasing knowledge on nutrition among poor families is key to the improvement of the status of families especially among vulnerable groups such as the children, pregnant and lactating women and elderly, Paclos said.

The provision of continuing support for the conduct of nutrition education among Pantawid families through the FDS with the involvement of the nurses under the nurse deployment program and in collaboration with the municipal links, is implemented in municipalities with high prevalence of malnutrition.

Paclos reported that the NNC together with the District Nutrition Program Coordinators   of Abra met last March 21,   and identified the expansion areas for Pabasa sa Nutrisyon. These are the towns of Pidigan, Langiden, La Paz, Tayum and San Isidro. (JDP/Maria Aprila W. Cruz – PIA CAR)
