BAGUIO CITY- Timely with the celebration of the nutrition month and national disaster consciousness month in July, a training on nutrition in emergencies for the local nutrition clusters of Ifugao and Mountain Province was successfully conducted on July 11-13, 2017 at Gordion Hotel, Vigan City.
19 members of the local nutrition clusters of Ifugao, 20 from Mt. Province and two from Benguet attended the training composed mostly of Municipal Nutrition Action Officers and Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officers. LDRRMOs were invited to join the training for them to consider the inclusion and integration of nutrition in emergencies in the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plan of the Local Government Unit.
Resource Speakers were also invited from Region 1 namely Jennie Apilas, District Nutrition Program Coordinator of La Union and Mylene Amano, City Nutrition Program Coordinator of Vigan City. PDRRMOs of each province who are also participants presented the overview of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Management System. Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Rita Papey gave a presentation in cluster coordination and policies on nutrition. Nutrition Officers Bella Basalong and Nancy Paclos served as Resouce Speakers/Facilitators of the training.
On the 3rd day, each municipality and the provincial nutrition committee members were able to craft their nutrition in emergencies plans. Under preparedness plan, reorganization or organization of their local nutrition clusters were considered, to designate their local nutrition committees as the nutrition cluster with the inclusion of the LDRRMOs as members. The group agreed that NNC-CAR to follow-up the Executive Orders organizing their nutrition clusters and Nutrition in Emergencies plans as indicated in their Re-Entry plans by last quarter of 2017.
The participants had the opportunity also to explore the historical Vigan during their stay in the city.
