BAGUIO CITY- Members of the Provincial Nutrition Cluster of Kalinga, members of the local nutrition committee with the Municipal Nutrition Action Officers and Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officers (LDRRMOs) of the seven municipalities of Kalinga namely Balbalan, Lubuagan, Pasil, Pinukpuk, Rizal, Tanudan and Tinglayan including the CRRRMO of Tabuk City were trained on nutrition in emergencies on August 15-17, 2017 at Jotay Resort, Santa Ana, Cagayan.
The training was attended by 25 participants including nutrition cluster members of Baguio City, Tinoc, Ifugao and Benguet province. It was facilitated by Nutrition Officer (NO) III Bella Basalong and NO II Nancy Paclos of NNC-CAR together with the District Nutrition Program Coordinator Ms. Frances Sebastian of Kalinga, Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) Merilyn Bangaan of Rizal, Kalinga and MNAO Jimely Quinones of Santa Ana, Cagayan.
The training completed the three batches of trainings on nutrition in emergencies for the local government units conducted by NNC-CAR for 2017. Among the six provinces of Cordillera, the province of Apayao was already trained in 2016. The provinces of Abra and Benguet and the city of Baguio are expected to be trained in the succeeding years to ensure that malnutrition among the vulnerable groups will not worsen during the emergencies and disasters experienced in the region.
