BAGUIO CITY- Four Nutritionist Dieticians hired as Universal Health Care Implementers (UHCIs) by the Department of Health-CAR will be deployed to the provinces of Abra, Kalinga, Mt. Province and Benguet signed their contracts last January 15, 2018.
To monitor health programs on nutrition, organize local nutrition planning workshop, assist Local Government Units in preparing nutrition related inputs for the LGU annual investment program and advocate for the adoption and financing of the local nutrition plans in their areas of assignment are among their functions.
From January 15-19, 2018 they spent their first week at NNC-CAR for orientation and briefing. Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Rita Papey and NNC-CAR technical staff oriented them on the nutrition programs to include BNS program, MELLPI (Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation) and OBNS (Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar) evaluation, nutrition in emergencies, and nutrition program management among others. They also discussed their roles and functions, the nutrition situation of the different provinces and the indicators of success in working with LGUs.
From January 22-26, 2018 they joined the mentoring conducted by NNC-CAR for selected barangays of Baguio City, got exposed to the realities of the nutrition program implementation at the barangay level aside from learning how coaching and mentoring can be done at barangay level.
They officially reported to their areas of assignments on January 29, 2018. NNC-CAR is very thankful to DOH-CAR for additional manpower that will help push for the implementation of the PPAN 2017-2022 in the provinces.
