BAGUIO CITY – The National Nutrition Council-CAR successfully confirmed 296 graduates of the Nutrition-School-On-the-Air (NSOA) last August 19, 2018 at Hotel Supreme, Baguio City. The NSOA aims to promote and educate the importance of good nutrition and the importance of healthy lifestyle in the physical well-being of an individual, through DZWT AM in its radio program “Kompletos Rekados” anchored by Ms. Rose Malekchan, also the treasurer of CAR Media Educators on Nutrition (CAR-MENu).
The NSOA is a nutrition promotion module developed by the National Nutrition Council aired in selected radio stations to create public awareness and adoption of good nutrition. It has 12 sessions on 10 Kumainments which encompasses the localized and popularized version of the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos. A 5-point quiz is administered after every Kumainment episode to gauge the learnings of the enrollees and a graduation ceremony is scheduled for successful participants who completed the episodes.
Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Rita D. Papey of NNC-CAR welcomed and thanked the participants from regions 1, 2 and CAR with their enthusiasm and support to NSOA and also extended her appreciation and gratitude to the local media partners. Father Victor Munar, General Manager of Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation (MPBC) gave the keynote message and highlighted that in every graduation, it is not the end, rather, a step to higher opportunities and possibilities as he encouraged everyone to use their learnings in their daily life, and that knowledge should not be kept but should be shared among their family and community members.
One of the highlights of the graduation ceremony was the awarding of certificate of completion and special awards. Selected participants also shared their learning experiences and appreciation on NSOA. Indeed, NSOA provides every individual an equal opportunity to educate, learn, participate and advocate their learnings towards good nutrition.
