Once again, a mighty Barangay Nutrition Scholar proved that age is just a number as long as a person has the passion and willingness to serve. At the age of 62, Ms. Guillerma Wagsingan, the Barangay Nutrition Scholar of Tuga, Tabuk City, Kalinga still willingly and wholeheartedly serves the constituents of their barangay especially the children. She has been the Barangay Nutrition Scholar for almost eight years since 2010. Before becoming the BNS, she served as Barangay Health Worker.
When asked about why she chose to remain as a BNS instead of enjoying her life or resting at home, she said that she is used to her work and she would rather spent her time making herself busy by having duty at the health center or conducting home visits than staying at home. She pities children being left at home by their parents and not sent to the health center when they are sick that is why she encouraged parents to avail of the free health and nutrition services being offered at the health center.
When asked on until when will she serve as a BNS, she said that so long as she can, she will continue to serve the constituents of their barangay. She feels satisfied and happy whenever she helps those in need considering the very meager allowance she receives from the barangay and from the province. She once proved that happiness cannot be provided by material things alone, happiness can be found at the workplace as long as we appreciate little things in our surroundings.
With these qualities, BNS Wagsingan was recognized as the 2017 Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar of Tabuk City and a finalist for the search for the Regional Outstanding BNS. With her dedication and hard work, this senior citizen deserves the recognition.
Along with this award, BNS Wagsingan was able to inspire a lot of people around her because of her good deeds. May the Lord grant her good health and longer life for she is a blessing to many.
