Lamut NIELAMUT, IFUGAO – “Let us stand in our honor as the number 1 most resilient municipality in the whole Philippines, and continue to protect the vulnerable groups in our municipality especially during disasters”, said by MDRRMO Mr. Junifer Ngannoy on the first day of the training on nutrition in emergencies on November 19, 2018 at Tourism Village, Brgy. Mabatobato, Lamut, Ifugao.

The Local Government Unit of Lamut, Ifugao through its Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office in partnership with the National Nutrition Council-CAR conducted a training on Nutrition in Emergencies (NiEm) for the eighteen (18) barangays of the municipality last November 19-21, 2018. Around 60 members of the Barangay Nutrition Committees including Punong Barangays, Kagawad on Health, Barangay Nutrition Scholars and Barangay Health Workers attended the training

The 3-day training aims to capacitate the participants on the nutrition intervention package during emergencies including the protection and promotion of breastfeeding, micronutrient supplementation and proper complementary feeding in evacuation centers; formulation of Nutrition in Emergencies Plan; and to enjoin the participants to organize and/or strengthen their Local Nutrition Clusters in their respective Barangays.

Each Barangay was able to craft their local Nutrition in Emergencies Plans to be finalized in their respective areas and integrated in their 2019 Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plans. With their plans, they are better prepared to ensure the protection and prevent worsening of the nutritional status of affected individuals especially the vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant, lactating and elderly during emergencies and disasters be it natural or human-induced.
