Baguio City - The Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) of Cordillera Administrative will conduct the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) Pro for Local Government Units (LGUs) and Local Nutrition Focal Persons starting May this year. This was firmed up during the virtual MELLPI Pro orientation and organization of the 2021 Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team held April 29, 2021.
Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) Pro aims to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of local governments in planning and implementing local nutrition programs. This is a tool for monitoring implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN), provision of technical assistance at the same time identification of high performing LGUs and local nutrition focal persons.
Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, MELLPI PRO was not conducted last year. With the ongoing pandemic, time frame for the conduct of MELLPI will be extended up to the third quarter and the RNET will adopt virtual means of evaluation to the extent possible.
The RNET members consisting of representatives from different government agencies in Cordillera aside from getting a refresher on MELLPI Pro tools and processes also re-elected the chairperson of the 2021 RNET in the person of Candice Salingbay of the Department of Health.
The tentative schedules for this year’s MELLPI Pro are 4th quarter of 2021 for Abra, 3rd week of May for Kalinga, 3rd week of June for Mt. Province, 3rd-4th quarter of 2021 for Ifugao, and 2nd week of June for Benguet. Apayao and Baguio City will still identify a schedule.
In addition to the Provinces and Baguio City to be evaluated this year, RNET will also score the Provincial/City Nutrition Action Officers (PNAOs) of Abra, Benguet and Baguio, and the District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators (D/CNPCs) of Abra, Baguio, Ifugao, Kalinga, and Mt. Province.
Among the awards to be conferred this year in the regional level are Green Banner Seal of Compliance to LGUs, PNAO of the Year, Local Nutrition Action Officer of the Year, Local Nutrition Program Coordinator of the Year, Provincial and City Outstanding BNS, and Regional Outstanding BNS for the Local Nutrition Focal Points.
NNC-CAR Nutrition Program Coordinator Rita Papey encouraged all the participants during her closing remarks to participate in the conduct of MELLPI Pro. She said that the activity would be a new experience and an opportunity that will provide a lot of learnings for the RNET members aside from providing technical assistance to the LGUs and local focal persons involved.
