BAGUIO CITY, April 2(PIA) - -The Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) is requesting the Regional Development Council (RDC) to confirm the re-organization of the Regional Bantay Asin Task Force (RBATF) and ensure the implementation of the provisions of the ASIN Law in the region.
The ASIN Law or Republic Act 8172 mandates all traded or distributed food grade-salt, whether locally produced or imported, should be iodized. It also mandates the use of iodized salt for processed food in food establishment.
Jesus Lopez, regional director for Center for Health Development –Cordillera and the RNC chairperson, said the RBATF facilitates and ensures the sustainable implementation of the ASIn Law in the region. It has been unoperational for some time and was re-organized last February 13, 2014 with CHD-CAR as chair and National Nutrition Council as co-chair.
Other member agencies are the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Education, Technology Research Center, Department of Education, National Economic and Development Authority, Department of Interior and Local Government, Philippine Information Agency, Philippine National Police, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Science and Technology, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
