Lagawe, Ifugao – More Nutriskwela Community Radio Stations (NCRS) will be established and upgraded in the country radio to disseminate correct, current, and relevant nutrition and health information, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) reported during the fifth conference of the NCR network program in Manila, recently.

The NNC announced ten more NCRSs will be established in seven regions in the country under its Nutriskwela phase 4 expansion program. These regions include the Cordillera, regions 1, 4B, 5, 8, 9, and 12.

In Cordillera, the station is eyed to be set u in Pasil, Kalinga. NCRS are already established in this town and in Lagangilang, Abra.

There are currently 25 NCRSs in 15 regions nationwide established by the NNC in partnership with local government units or state universities and colleges with the goal of empowering the community through radio to disseminate correct, current and relevant nutrition and health information.

NCRS is a non-profit and non-partisan that disseminate educational and developmental information from all concerned sectors of the community, government and non government agencies.

The criteria to establish the radio station are high prevalence of underweight children, absence or limited access to commercial radio broadcasts, willingness of partner local government units to provide counterpart personnel, space and funds for the operations, pass the technical evaluation of NNC, and feasibility of sustaining the operations of the broadcast facility. – Marcelo B.
