ted by the National Nutrition Council was held in the province of Abra last October 29, 2014. The forum was participated by the Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (MNAOs) of the municipalities of Abra, Provincial Nutrition Committee members of Abra and the regional officers of the various associations/federations on nutrition particularly the Nutrition Action Officers (NAOs)-CAR, District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators (D/CNPCs)-CAR and Cordillera Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs).

In the opening and welcome message of the Provincial Administrator representing the governor- Honorable Eustaquio Bersamin, she said that undernutrition among preschool children is a big challenge to the province since they ranked 2nd among the provinces in the region with the highest prevalence of underweight, based on OPT Plus 2013 data. She encouraged the MNAOs present in the forum to initiate measures to address the problem and she committed the support of the province to fight malnutrition in the province.

The activity is a strategy of the RNC to assist the local nutrition committees in the region and the said forum was conducted as a joint activity of the RNC, the Regional Federation Officers of the (NAOs)-CAR, (D/CNPCs)-CAR and BNSs-Cordillera and the Provincial Government of Abra.on of the regional and provincial nutrition situation; sharing of best practices in nutrition program implementation of Ifugao province as a Nutrition Honor Awardee by the District Nutrition Program Coordinator of Ifugao, Ms. Corazon P. Dawong; conduct of Focused Group Discussion (FGD) to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the local nutrition committees facilitated by Ms. Rita D. Papey (Nutrition Program Coordinator, NNC-CAR), Ms. Jocelyn Rojo (Regional Technical Assistants on Nutrition member, DILG-CAR), Ms. Candice Willy (Regional Technical Assistants on Nutrition member, DOH-CAR) and Ms. Bella Basalong (Nutrition Officer III, NNC-CAR) and meeting of the Nutrition Action Officers of Abra by the president Ms. Myrna Ruth Borgonia (MNAO, Bangued, Abra).
