TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Nov. 15 (PIA) - - The National Nutritional Council-Cordillera Regional Office (NNC-CAR) in partnership with the provincial and municipal government here launched the Revised Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos recently.
NNC-CAR OIC Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Ma. Eileen Bringas-Blanco said the guideline is being launched per province to ‘personalize’ the activity to meet more service providers involved in the nutrition program and local officials.
The Revised Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos she said advocates ten messages on nutrition that include the desired nutritional, dietary practices and healthy lifestyle in each message.
With the launching, the NNC and its local counterparts hope to extend the advocacy to the local chief executives to get their support in ‘selling’ the messages to the communities.
“We have to sell the nutrition guidelines to our communities to help solve nutrition concerns,” she said underscoring that this is the advocacy of the NNC to invest more on nutrition information and proper nutrition practices to improve the quality of life of the people instead of spending on medicines once malnutrition occurs.
She said that problems on under nutrition referring to underweight, wasting and stunting still persist in the region with growing concern on over nutrition or obesity especially in the urban areas.
Barangay health workers, barangay nutrition scholars and day care workers also play a vital role in promoting the messages through information dissemination and advocacy activities, she said.
During the activity Blanco presented the regional nutrition situation to the participants composed of provincial elected officials, BNS, DCW, municipal health officers, municipal nutrition action officers and partner national line agencies. ( JDP/GGD- PIA CAR, Kalinga)
