March Womens month activities CAR

March is National Women’s Month!

The National Nutrition Council (NNC)-CAR conducted several activities for this month to join the nationwide celebration.

This year’ theme of the celebration is “WE Make CHANGE Work for WOMEN” focusing on the sub-theme “Agenda ng Kababaihan Tungo sa Kaunlaran”. The sub-theme, as stated by the Philippine Commission on Women, is a celebration of women exercising their choices, taking chances to make their voices heard, and benefitting from and trailblazing changes. It is a celebration of Filipino women’s power to take the narrative, raise priority issues that matter to them, and call for concrete actions.

NNC-CAR posted social media cards in celebration of the National Women’s Month. A streamer was also posted at the frontage of NNC-CAR’s office to show the agencies participation to the nationwide celebration. NNC-CAR also joined the #PurpleTuesdays through the staff wearing purple Women’s Month t-shirts every Tuesday of the month to signify support for women’s empowerment and gender equality.

Aside from those, the NNC-CAR staff participated at the Women’s Month Webinar organized by the NNC-Central Office. During the webinar, Ms. Jedidia L. Aquino, Independent GAD Consultant and former Assistant Regional Director of National Economic and Development Authority-CAR, talked about “Gender-Fair Communication”. She emphasized the use of gender neutral or gender inclusive words and avoid the sexist ones. A panel discussion titled “Women Achievers in Nutrition” was also one of the highlights of the webinar. Ms. Precious Leaño, founder of Art Relief Mobile Kitchen, and Ms. Tracy Santiago, founder of Sustainable Towns, were the panelists.

Also, NNC-CAR is currently running an online poster making contest on its Facebook fanpage. The contest’s theme is “The Role of Women in Food and Nutrition Security” and was open to junior and high school students in CAR. The contest aims to recognize the vital roles of women in securing food and nutrition. 25 entries were received and were narrowed down to Final 10 entries. The final 10 entries were judged by the agency’s technical staff and were posted at the NNC-CAR fanpage for voting (ends on April 1, 2022 at 12:00pm) through Facebook reactions. 30% of the total scores are from the judges’ scores while 70% will be based on the accumulated Facebook reactions of the poster entries. Said entries could be accessed through https://www.facebook.com/202417936491629/posts/5109657382434302/.
