The two-day 2022 Nutrition Month Webinar Series titled “Nutrisyon, Katuwang sa Pagbangon: Transitioning to a Better New Normal” organized by the National Nutrition Council-Cordillera Administrative Region (NNC-CAR) concluded on July 19, 2022 via Zoom.
With over 315 participants on Day 1 and over 260 participants on Day 2, the webinar series imparted knowledge and learning as topics relevant to this year’s Nutrition Month campaign were lectured on by esteemed Resource Speakers.
The first day of the webinar on July 1, 2022 served as a kick-off activity for the celebration of the 48th Nutrition Month in the region. Bella M. Basalong, OIC-Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator of NNC-CAR, presented the Nutrition Month theme and Key Messages highlighting that this year’s theme, “New Normal na Nutrisyon, Sama-samang Gawan ng Solusyon” calls for solidarity to address malnutrition in the new normal. It also holds the promise that after this once in a lifetime pandemic, we can recover and build back better through improved nutrition and resilience.
Completing the roster of topics for Day 1 was “Consumption of Sustainable Healthy Diets” lectured on by Krisha Marie Z. Kawig, Freelance Food and Beverage Consultant and Wellness Speaker. Kawig defined sustainable diets as those diets that can be continued over a period of time. In a deeper look, she said that sustainable diets are those diets with low environmental impacts that contribute to food and nutrition security and to healthy life for present and future generations.
The second and final day of the webinar was conducted on July 19, 2022. Dr. Susan D. Balanza, Division Chief of the Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the Department of Agriculture-CAR shed light on “Supporting Food and Nutrition Security in the New Normal”. Dr. Balanza underscored the factors to consider for food and nutrition security, namely: food supply, food safety, food access, and food affordability. The last topic for the webinar series was on the role of nutrition in building resilience. Jomarie L. Tongol, Nutrition Officer of the Nutrition Information and Education Division of NNC emphasized that nutrition and resilience are co-dependent and mutually reinforcing. Thus, an improved resilience means improved nutrition.
