b 330 220 2734 0   images pasada5-6 February 2013-- The National Nutrition Council-CAR with its media group, CAR- Media Educators on Nutrition visited Brgy. Bantay, Paracelis, Mt. Province and Brgy. Socbot, Pinukpuk, Kalinga for the conduct of a Nutri-Pasada Program as one of its strategy in increasing community awareness on nutrition to the most nutritionally depressed barangays (NDBs) in the region.

The Nutri-Pasada is one among the NNC-CAR’s innovated project with its media group to extend nutrition advocacy to barangays with high incidence of under nutrition especially among children 0-71 months old children with the hope that it will significantly contribute to the improvement of the barangay nutrition situation. Families of underweight children, concerned barangay nutrition scholars (BNSs), members of the municipal nutrition committee and 4Ps/CCT families were all invited and participated. The lined-up activities under the Nutri-Pasada Program include a Nutrition Audio- Visual Presentation (localized), nutrition situation assessment, lecture on the updated Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos, introduction of organic farming, vegetable cooking contest, nutri-kids class and various nutri-parlor games for children.

In the final message of OIC- Nutrition Program Coordinator Rose Lulu P. Pagaduan of the National Nutrition Council- Region I and CAR, she said that malnutrition is the root cause of numerous illnesses and problems among young children and mothers. She added that we should promote good nutrition so that children will be able to learn in school and become productive individuals who could greatly contribute in the improvement of the quality of life in their respective communities. She also appealed to the participants to start practicing proper nutrition in their homes and be counted in the effort to eradicate malnutrition in the countryside.

The Local Government Units of the both area committed to do their share in improving their respective nutrition situation to be able to achieve their MDG target specifically on eradicating poverty and hunger in their localities.
