BAGUIO CITY—Cordillera Administrative Region- Media Educators on Nutrition in partnership with the National Nutrition Council- CAR conducted a Talakayan sa Radyo ng Bayan- Baguio held last January 08, 2012 at Hotel Veniz. This is an annual event regularly aired live on radio just after the Cordillera- Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony. It aims to acknowledge and recognize the nutrition achievers on air and promote nutrition programs, projects, activities and advocacies which will be implemented. It is also a way of educating listeners with more information which in any way could enhance their knowledge on nutrition.
The panellists were Ms. Rose Lulu P. Pagaduan, OIC- NNC Region I and CAR; Dr. Martha B. Cayad-an, Health Specialist of UNICEF; and the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars Ms. Monica Sicat of Baguio City, Ms. Mila Buya of Benguet, Ms. Jennifer Maurera of Ifugao and Ms. Epifania Baltazar of Kalinga.
“It was a blessing that being my first time to attend the awarding ceremony in the Cordillera, it was a coincidence that our local chief executives who are very supportive to nutrition programs are here with us today, who are our models and nutrition advocates to convince and inspire the non-participating provinces like Abra, Apayao, Kalinga and Mt. Province. We hope that with the continuing advocacy together with you, media partners, we will broaden our advocacy campaign on nutrition programs in the region,” Pagaduan said urging other LGUs to participate for the annual monitoring and evaluation.
Dr. Cayad-an also emphasized the importance of giving interventions on the window of opportunities which is from pregnancy to the first two years of life which is one focus of the UNICEF in supporting the Government of South Sudan.
The Outstanding BNSs also expressed their gratitude and appreciation to their LGUs and agencies concerned for the support given to them which contributed to the improvement of the nutrition situation in their respective barangays. (K.P.A.G.)
