21 December 2012—Assistant Secretary of Health Maria- Bernardita T. Flores, Executive Director IV of the National Nutrition Council, visited Radyo Kiphodan in Lagawe, Ifugao, the only nutriskwela community radio station of the National Nutrition Council in the Cordillera Administrative Region in partnership with the LGU of the said municipality launched last August 24, 2009.
During the interview with Ms. Vency Bulayungan, PIA Provincial Director and Chair of the Radio Council, A/Sec Flores explained the benefits and advantages of having a Nutriskwela Community Radio and suggested the Radio Council to document good practices on how Radyo Kiphodan changed/affected the lives of the Ifugao People. On the other hand, Ms. Bulayongan proudly shared one of their PNC project “Best School Canteen” being aired and how the radio contributes in its advocacy wherein all school canteen should sell nutritious foods only. She likewise congratulated Mayoyao Elementary School for being a successive winner for the past two years.
Furthermore, A/Sec Flores proudly informed the Radio Council spearheaded by Mayor Caesario Cabbigat that the National Nutrition Council will upgrade the radio transmitter from 100watt to 500watt to expand radio coverage and to reach all areas of the province. She then recommended the transfer of the radio station to a wider space to accommodate more guests; put back the nutriskwela nutrition ID and should be regularly aired; and give more time for nutrition related programs.
The radio station was set up to empower the community through the dissemination of correct and up-to-date nutrition and health information, as well as educational and developmental information from all relevant sectors of the community, government agencies and NGOs.
