Writers Guild writeshopThe National Nutrition Council – NCR conducted a workshop for the members of the Regional Nutrition Writers’ Guild to improve their skills on writing articles for the web and social media management.  The workshop was held on September 4, 2019 at the NNC Conference Room, Taguig City. It was attended by 14 representatives from the local government units in NCR.  All LGUs were well represented except for Valenzuela, Pateros and Las Piňas.

The workshop aimed to improve the participants’ skills in writing quality news and feature articles for the web to promote good nutrition and disseminate nutrition-related information.  It also aimed to capacitate the participants on how to manage and maintain their respective local nutrition committee facebook pages and use it effectively and efficiently in promoting and sharing nutrition and related information as well as informing the public on their nutrition activities.
In her message, NNC-NCR Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa Federizo hopes that through the workshop, all members will be able to write articles on their LGU’s good practices in implementing the PPAN programs.  The PPAN or the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition is the country’s framework in improving the nutrition situation. By publishing these articles in the web, more people, locally and globally, will be aware of the efforts being done by the LGUs in addressing the problem of hunger and malnutrition in Metro Manila.  LGUs may also learn from the experiences of others.  She also hopes that after the workshop, LGUs will be able maintain and manage their social media accounts and use them to the fullest in promoting good nutrition as well as the health services available in their areas.

During the workshop, Ms. Jenny Red from the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) - InfoComm discussed tips, trends, and ideas on managing social media for promoting good nutrition. She also taught the participants on how to create their brand and content for their social media accounts.  In addition, Ms. Alaine Allanigue also from PIA shared her expertise on Basic News Writing. She explained the fundamentals of news writing as well as various tips on how to effectively write news and feature articles. She encouraged everyone not to be afraid to write. As John Irving said, “Half my life is an act of revision”.

Members of the Regional Nutrition Writers’ Guild are expected to actively contribute articles on their LGU’s nutrition programs and activities which will be published in the NNC-NCR webpage. (TAR/NPC MEVF/NNC-NCR)
