Malabon City believes that zero stunting can be achieved by focusing on the first 1000 days of life which starts from pregnancy up to two (2) years of the child.
The first 1000 days of life is called the “golden window of opportunity” for nutrition and related interventions to have a positive impact on the child’s physical and mental development. Focusing on the F1K will ensure that pregnant women and their children up to two (2) years old are given access to quality health care and nutrition services.
To achieve this goal, the city nutrition committee (CNC), through the leadership of Mayor Antolin “Lenlen” Oreta, ensures that all services under the first 1000 days program are integrated in the comprehensive development plan (CDP) of the city.
To be able to have a strong integration of nutrition in the CDP, the CNC conducted a planning workshop on October 22-23, 2019. The members of the CNC reviewed and assessed the current CDP and were able to come up with recommendations on how to integrate nutrition as a priority development challenges.
Through the series of workshops, the CNC were able to draft their city nutrition action plan for 2020-2022. The CNAP includes the programs, projects and activities to be conducted by the CNC for three (3) years.
The workshop was attended by CNC members from the following offices: DILG, Deped, PIO, Planning Office, DRRM, Health, and CSWDO. It was facilitated by the nutrition secretariat assisted by the National Nutrition Council - NCR. Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa Federizo and Nutrition Officers Emerenciana Francia, Theresa Rivas and Mary Agnes Beatrice Menorca assisted the CNC in the formulation of their CNAP 2020-2022. Also present during the workshop were City Nutrition Action Officer Melissa Oreta, City Councilors Mr. Jose Lorenzo Oreta and Mr. Prospero Alfonso Maňalac, City Health Officer Dr. Roberto Romero and Medical Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Mitzi Tiongson.
