nieBaguio City- The National Nutrition Council- Regional Office I conducted the Training on Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE) on 15-18 October 2015 held at Hotel Veniz, Baguio City attended by Twenty (20) members of the Regional Nutrition Cluster. The training aims to capacitate the members with the basic skills on Rapid Nutritional Assessment (RNA) which includes weight, height and mid- upper arm circumference, conducting nutrition surveillance and administering standard and appropriate nutrition interventions or the NiE Minimum Service Package.

NPC Blanco, NO III Gatan of NNC-ROI and Ms. Orencia Macusi of DAR-Regional Office I who were trained on Nutrition in Emergencies by the National Nutrition Council and UNICEF last October 2014, facilitated the training.

NPC Blanco said on her opening message that nutrition interventions during emergencies should be given priority to prevent worsening and deterioration of nutritional status among vulnerable groups particularly among children, pregnant and lactating women including elderlies.

“We need to organize and capacitate nutrition clusters from the regional down to the local level as sub-cluster of the Regional/ Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (R/LDRRMC) to ensure delivery of nutrition interventions in relation to emergencies,” she added.

The NiE Plan was drafted as the main output of the training to be finalized by the nutrition cluster for their upcoming meetings.
