SAN FERNANDO CITY, November 5 (PIA) - The National Nutrition Council (NNC) Regional Office 1 recently recognized active local health implementers during the 2015 Regional Nutrition Awarding ceremony last 27 October 2015 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Convention Hall, San Fernando City, La Union.
According to NNC Nutrition Program Coordinator Ma. Eileen B. Blanco, awardees were local government units (LGUs) and individuals who stood out in implementing nutrition programs last year.
“This annual search is to assess how efficient LGUs and individuals are in implementing local nutrition programs and to encourage them more to be exemplary in taking initiatives to improve the health of their constituents,” Blanco said.
Coveted awards given were the Outstanding Nutrition Program Implementers (Provincial and City Category), Provincial Green Banner Award-Municipal Category, Regional Green Banner Award-Municipal Category and the Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar.
For the Outstanding Nutrition Program Implementers Award (Provincial Category), the provinces of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur were given plaques of recognition.
For the City Category, five LGUs were honored namely Urdaneta City, Candon City, Batac City, Laoag City and Alaminos City.
Under the Regional Green Banner Award, the municipality of Luna in La Union was awarded the Most Outstanding Nutrition Implementer for the municipal category for its excellent efforts in cutting down rate of malnutrition in their area. The award was received by Luna Mayor Victor Marvin U. Marron along with MNAO Erlinda Nuesca and some of his constituents.
The Green Banner award is the highest award conferred to an LGU in the region for its exemplary implementation and management of nutrition programs.
“This award is the result of hard work of all members of the Municipal Nutrition Committee and other stakeholders. Five years ago, Luna was the third with the highest rate of malnutrition in the province but now, we are proud to say that we are now seven slots higher than in 2010,” Marron said.
Meanwhile under the Provincial Green Banner Award, winners are as follows: San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, San Vicente, Ilocos Sur and Luna, La Union.
The Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (ROBNS) is Ms. Anaryll A. Adriatico of Ayusan Norte, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. First runner up is Widna E. Galuardo of Calumbaya, Ilocos Sur and the second runner up is Irene T. Casino of Palacapac, Candon City.
BNS is a trained community volunteer worker whose main task is to monitor the nutritional status of children and/or link communities with nutrition and related service providers.
For her part, Adriatico with the prestigious award she has received, her passion to serve the people especially children in Vigan City will continue.
She is also a national finalist to the 2014 National outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar and was awarded at PICC in Manila last Oct. 29, 2015.
All winners of the various awards were chosen using the results of the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) with members from Regional Line Agencies and representatives from non-government organizations. (MCA/JNPD/PIA-1 La Union)
