Facilitators and participants during the Training on the Basic Course for Barangay Nutrition Scholars held last May 25-27, 2016 at Kevin's Restaurant, San Carlos City, PangasinanSan Carlos City, Pangasinan- The City Nutrition Committee (CNC) of San Carlos has successfully conducted the training on the basic course for Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) to the sixty eight (68) newly appointed nutrition frontliners on May 25-27, 2016 held at Kevin Balong’s Restaurant.

The 3-day training was initiated by City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO) Dra. Luisa F. Cayabyab with the unwavering support of Mayor Julier C. Resuello.

The training aims to capacitate the newly deployed barangay nutrition scholars of San Carlos City.



Dr. Cayabyab said in her message that it is high time for San Carlos City to recruit and deploy BNSs per barangay to provide efficient basic health and nutrition services and help improve the nutrition situation in every barangay of the city.

The training course consists of six modules designed for the new BNSs to have a common basic knowledge and skills on BNS program, roles and functions, core values, basic terms on nutrition, community nutrition assessment and how to fill-up various BNS forms which are necessary in performing their roles and functions effectively.

Ms. Marina Q. Penoliar, District Nutrition Program Coordinator of Pangasinan, Mr. Kendall A. Gatan, Ms. Nancy E. Paclos and Ms. Gretchen J. Nisperos of NNC-ROI served as trainers-facilitators of the said training.

Participants were given BNS handbook each to serve as their handy reference and guide in performing their roles and functions. It is also expected that every barangay should organize their respective Barangay Nutrition Committee.

In behalf of NNC-ROI Nutrition Program Coordinator Ma. Eileen Blanco, NO III Gatan in his closing message encouraged each BNS’s to go on with their vow with dedication, passion and hard work to ensure the nutritional well-being of preschoolers and families in their respective communities. He also commended San Carlos City for including nutrition as one of their priorities.
