San Fernando City, La Union—The National Nutrition Council-Regional Office I in partnership with the League of Nutrition Action Officers (NAOs) in Region I, LUPang Ilocos Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) Federation, Incorporated and the Provincial Government of La Union will spearhead the 2016 Regional Launching of Nutrition Month in San Gabriel, La Union on July 1, 2016 with the theme: “First 1000 Days ni baby pahalagahan para sa malusog na kinabukasan.”
San Gabriel, La Union was selected as venue for the said event to focus and strengthen the advocacy in a community populated with Indigenous People targeting 100 pregnant and lactating mothers.
Dir. Myrna C. Cabotaje, DOH Regional Director and Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) Chair, together with the newly elect Governor of La Union, Hon. Francisco Emmanuel Ortega are invited to grace the said event. Members of the RNC, officers of Regional Federations of NAOs, BNSs, District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators, Provincial/City NAOs and Local Media Partners are also invited to witness the activity.
The DOH in coordination with the Municipal Health Office of San Gabriel will be providing pre-natal services while the District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators together with the Regional BNS Officers will conduct nutrition assessment and counseling simultaneously to pregnant and lactating mothers with their children.
To highlight the activity, all nutrition stakeholders are enjoined to commit their support in the massive advocacy on the importance of focusing nutrition interventions for the first 1000 days of life.
