sfcJuly 8, 2016- The City of San Fernando kicked-off the month long celebration of 2016 Nutrition Month through a launching program and Well Baby Contest held at People’s Hall, San Fernando City Hall, La Union last July 8, 2016. This was participated by lactating mothers, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Barangay Health Workers and City Hall employees.

City Health Officer Dr. Eduardo Posadas opened the program emphasizing that First 1000 Days is very crucial and foundation of a person’s life long health. He also appealed to everyone to join hands in the realization of the San Fernando City’s vision, “Northern Luzon's Center for Health and Wellness by 2020”.

City Vice-Mayor Hon. Alfredo Ortega in his message also emphasized the importance of ensuring best nutrition and health among pregnant women and children below 2 years old.



The Search of Healthy Baby highlighted the event in support to the intensive promotion and advocacy of breastfeeding. Selection of winners was based on exclusive and proper breastfeeding practice, nutritional status of the mother and child, proper hygiene and good grooming.

Ms. Gretchen Nisperos, Nutrition Officer II of NNC1 served as one of the board of judges. Ms. Daisy Bal with her daughter Ysiao Marie was adjudged as the Well Baby Champion among the seventeen (17) pairs of mother and baby contenders while Ms. Rosanne Bacani and Ms. Angeline Carlito garnered the first and second prize respectively.

Upcoming activities such as BNS Cookfest and Slogan-Poster Making Contest which will focus on the Nutrition Month Theme, “First 1000 Days ni baby pahalagahan para sa malusog na kinabukasan” will be held on July 15 and 22, 2016. (Gretchen J. Nisperos, Nutrition Officer II)
