The Ilocos Norte Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Federation spearheaded the 7th Provincial BNS Congress held at Ernesto C. Go Mega Complex, Currimao, Ilocos Norte last July 15, 2016 with the theme, “Salun-at ti Maladaga Masalwadan, Umuna nga 1000 Days Intay Iwan-Wan, BNS Ilocos Norte Sanggir ken Mapangnamnamaan” which is anchored with the 2016 Nutrition Month theme: “First 1000 Days ni baby pahalagahan para sa malusog na kinabukasan.” Around 700 BNSs coming from the different municipalities of Ilocos Norte attended the said event.
Honorable Gladys Go Cue, Vice-Mayor of Currimao graced the event as the keynote speaker. In her message she commended the unsung heroes- the BNSs of Ilocos Norte headed by the Federation President Mr. Darwin Tumbaga for keeping the spirit of volunteerism alive and playing a vital role in promoting nutrition at the grass root level especially during the First 1000 days of life.
Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Ms. Elma S. Irapta discussed the 2016 Nutrition Month Talking Points. She emphasized that nutrition is very essential not only for the First 1000 days of life but all throughout the life cycle.
Twenty one (21) BNSs from each municipality competed during the Nutrition Quiz Bee Challenge. Pagudpud got the first prize while Marcos, Vintar, Banna and Bangui got the second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
The first ever Search for Miss BNS Ilocos Norte highlighted the event in which 19 BNSs showcased their beauty and brain for the three categories: Production Outfit, Casual Wear and Verbal/Mental Challenge. Miss Currimao was crowned as the 2016 Miss BNS Ilocos Norte while Miss Batac City, Miss Pinili, Miss Bacarra and Miss Vintar were adjudged as the first, second, third and fourth runners-up, respectively.
Every BNSs brought home the smile on their faces with all the learnings, experiences and opportunities in interacting with their co-BNSs to foster camaraderie and unity. (Mr. Darwin F. Tumbaga, BNS President, Ilocos Norte)
