The City Government of Alaminos, Pangasinan is now ready for the first wave of the periodic collection of relevant data in support to the established Early Warning System for Food and Nutrition Security (EWS-FNS) project. This is a form of monitoring and analysis of relevant information which are being collected periodically to determine status of food security in the city which may foretell possible crisis such as food shortage or health problem that will provide evidence-based information to the key officials in planning and executing appropriate and timely food security and nutrition interventions.
The project is being spearheaded by the National Nutrition Council as one of their commitments to assist the city in alleviating hunger, malnutrition and poverty as recipient of the Accelerated and Sustainable Anti-Poverty Program (ASAPP) and Early Childhood Care and Development- Intervention Package (ECCD-IP).
NNC successfully completed all the trainings in capacitating the EWS Team of Alaminos City for its operationalization.
City Nutrition Action Officer Virginia Francisco said during the EWS-FNS training for household data collectors held last August 30-31 at Hotel Lenox in Dagupan City that the EWS Team will start its periodic collection on the second week of October this year and this will surely help the city in taking actions to address its hunger and high malnutrition rate.
“Our City Mayor with the City Nutrition Committee (CNC) members is very committed and is looking forward for a very successful, fruitful and meaningful implementation of the project,” she added.
