Baguio City- The League of Nutrition Action Officers of Region I (RLNAOs) in partnership with the National Nutrition Council- Regional Office I successfully conducted its 24th RLNAOs Conference-Workshop on March 13-15, 2017 at Hotel Supreme, Magsaysay Ave., Baguio City. A total of 244 participants attended the event composed of Provincial/City/Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators, Barangay Nutrition Scholars and other nutrition stakeholders.
The conference was hosted by the Provincial Nutrition Office and NAOs Federation of Ilocos Norte with this year’s theme: "RLNAOs @ 24. Sustainable Healthy Lifestyle: A Challenge to Beat, Longer Life to #ACHIEVE!", anchored with the 2017 nutrition month theme and the roles of nutrition workers to contribute in the attainment of the Philippine Health Agenda Framework ACHIEVE.
Mr. Nestor B. Fongwan, former governor of Benguet, a known nutrition advocate graced the event as the keynote speaker. He shared his strong support and experiences in the field of nutrition as the Local Chief Executive (LCE) during his term as mayor and governor.
In her inspirational message, Regional Director of DOH and Chairperson of the Regional Nutrition Committee Dr. Myrna C. Cabotaje urged all the nutrition and health workers to work together for the attainment of the Philippine Health Agenda.
Topics discussed during the conference-workshop include the Philippine Health Agenda, PPAN 2017-2022, Overview of the eOPT+, Emotional Intelligence and Building Confidence and Healthy Lifestyle and Non-Communicable Diseases.
The Conference-Workshop was highlighted with the coronation of Ms. RLNAOs 2017. Ms. Lovely Oreta of Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur was crowned as the Ms. RLNAOs. Ms. Adelaida Pintor, of Tubao, La Union, Ms. Josie Viado of Nueva Era, Ilocos Norte and Ms. Emely Lomibao of Burgos, Pangasinan were adjudged as 1st runner-up, 2nd runner-up and 3rd runner-up, respectively.
Likewise, annual general assembly was conducted during the second day of the event.
The said conference-workshop aims to update and equip local nutrition workers with knowledge and skills to sustain efficient and effective management of local nutrition programs. Likewise, it will be a venue to enhance their capacities and competencies to improve the delivery of nutrition services, and implement priority actions to address hunger and malnutrition in their respective areas.
