Bayambang, Pangasinan - In the active leadership of Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao, the LGU of Bayambang is now ready for the first stage of implementation through the roll out of trainings on food production project of the Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1000 Days (ECCD-F1K) Program. Mr. Fernando Quijalvo, the municipal agricultural technician presented the approved food production plan for Calendar Year 2017 during the special meeting of the municipal nutrition and financial committee last April 20, 2017.
The project entitled “Gulayan sa Bakuran, Barangay at Paaralan” aims to provide families in the community on basic and technical know-how on production of good quality and high value vegetables for their own consumption. Through application of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), households are given opportunity to produce safe and nutritious vegetables that will serve as a source of alternative income and livelihood to support their basic needs.
The project is designed for 507 selected household beneficiaries with malnourished mothers and children based from the data of 2017 Operation Timbang Plus through bio-intensive gardening. In addition, it will involve 49 elementary schools and national high schools. All 77 barangays of the municipality will be given agricultural inputs for community vegetable gardening.
The allotted fund for the food production project is Php 3,080,000.00 which will be used for this year 2017. The socio-agricultural component has an estimated budget of Php 1, 215, 230, in which beneficiaries will be given with assorted vegetable seeds, rhizomes, tubers, saplings, fruit tree seedlings, papaya seeds and mushroom spawns. A total of Php 1, 042, 000.00 goes to livelihood trainings on vermiculture and organic fertilizer production, mushroom production, papaya seedling propagation, moringa production, swine and native chicken production and financial literacy program. The infrastructure component amounting to Php 822, 380.00 will be set aside for the purchase of greenhouse-nursery, water system, organic fertilizer production facility and three (3) reservoir tanks.
The “Gulayan sa Bakuran, Barangay, at Paaralan” will be implemented with the concerted efforts of the Municipal Agriculture Office, Rural Health Units, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, Municipal Planning and Development Office, Municipal Nutrition Committee and other stakeholders. The developmental cost on social mobilization, monitoring and evaluation will be augmented by the municipality.
