SAN FERNANDO CITY, LA UNION – The National Nutrition Council – Regional Office I (NNC-ROI) warmly welcomed the three (3) Nutrition and Dietetics students: Ms. Bea Mica C. Caluza, Ms. Van Ira C. Ulatan and Ms. Mia Gail P. Payapay from Benguet State University (BSU), La Trinidad, Benguet for their public health nutrition practicum from April to May 2017 to complete the required two hundred fifty (250) hours.
This will be an opportunity for the National Nutrition Council to expose these young minds and future nutrition advocates to the actual activities in nutrition program management.
The trainees are expected to experience the Nutrition Program Management Cycle from nutritional assessment, planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation.
To further expose them in community nutrition, the trainees with close supervision of NNC and in collaboration with the Provincial Nutrition Office of La Union and Municipal Nutrition Office of Caba, La Union adopted Barangay Santiago Sur in Caba as one of their practicum sites being one of the barangays in the said municipality with high number of undernutrition.
The students are expected to conduct nutrition assessment through OPT Plus results validation, Spearhead nutrition education classes and assist the community in identifying appropriate nutrition actions to address impending nutritional problems in the barangay.
The NNC hopes that learning and experiences of these young partners for change for nutrition improvements will be instrumental in their future careers as we all strive for the improved nutrition situation of the country. (MGSC)
