region-1 conducts 2014 ppanBauang, La Union – The NNC- Regional Office I conducted the annual Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition- Program Implementation Review (PPAN-PIR) last January 8-9, 2015 at Marand Resort and Spa, Bauang, La Union to assess the implementation of local PPAN implementation in the region.

The PPAN is the country’s blueprint in addressing hunger and malnutrition in the country. It provides the framework for improving the nutritional status of Filipinos. The periodic assessment of local PPAN implementation is essential to determine whether programs and projects were done as planned and whether resources are utilized efficiently.

 

Around 25 participants from the provinces, cities and municipalities of the region including Presidents of the Regional League of Nutrition Action Officers (RLNAOs), BNS Federation and D/CNPC Federation attended the PIR.

Nutrition Officer III Kendall Pilgrim A. Gatan presented the overview of the activity and Updated PPAN 2014-2016, while Ms. Gretchen Nisperos presented the Regional Nutrition Situation. Mr. Gatan explained that much is still needed to be done to achieve the PPAN targets as well as the MDG targets.

A workshop was done to identify good practices of Local Government Units including facilitating and deterring factors in local PPAN implementation. Recommendations were focused on intensifying nutrition education programs to increase awareness of people as well as providing appropriate and timely interventions to the targeted beneficiaries.
