Eileen Blanco together with the members of the RNC, present Local Chief Executives, legislatives, and concerned sectors post with the PPAN Documents during the Regional Dissemination of the PPAN 2017-2022 as a sign of commitment to support its implementation.

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – National Nutrition Council Region 1 in partnership with the Department of Health Region 1 recently held its Regional Dissemination of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017 – 2022 cum exhibits at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Regional Office here last Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017.

Hon. Juan Carlo S. Medina, Mayor of Vigan City, Ilocos Sur and Chairperson of the Regional Development Council in his keynote message gave emphasis on the need for region 1 to enhance existing cooperation amongst local government units, led by the national government and the different sectors of the society to address development problems especially those that pertain to nutrition. He also shared several best practices of the heritage city in addressing their problems on nutrition as a fourth-class municipality and enjoined other local government units to broaden the scope of their commitment in participation to the PPAN.


Moreover, National Nutrition Council Regional Office 1 Nutrition Program Coordinator Ma. Eileen Bringas-Blanco presented to the public the need for the immediate implementation of the regional PPAN to address the prevalence of nutrition problems in the region giving more focus on stunting, wasting and obesity among children which are the most commonly observed difficulties here. The state of the nutrition in the region was presented in full by Mr. Kendall A. Gatan, Nutrition Officer III of NNC RO1.

The highlight of the program was the symbolic turn - over of PPAN 2017 – 2022 by Regional Development Council Chairperson Juan Carlo S. Medina, DOH Region 1 Dir. Myrna Cabotaje and Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Ma. Eileen Blanco to stakeholders that include RNC Member agencies, Local Chief Executives, Regional Federations Presidents, Regional Media Group President, NGO Representative and Legislator Representative.

In return, commitment responses for the implementation of  PPAN 2017 – 2022 were expressed by Dr. Hector Benas representing La Union Governor Francisco Emmanuel Ortega III, Chairperson of the Provincial Nutrition Committee of the Province of La Union, Ms. Reygee Roceros representing Mr. Floramante I. Yadao, President of the League of Nutrition Action Officers in Region 1, Ms. Analiza Miranda, President, D/CNPCAP Region 1 Chapter, Ms. Nory E. Estoesta, President of LUPang Ilocos BNS Federation, Inc., Mr. Bernie Errasquin, President Of the Regional Organization of Nutrition Development Advocates -1, Inc., NGO representative, and Legislator Representative.

One of the highlights of the event is the PPAN exhibit where delegates eperienced the PPAN Programs through displays, giveaways, film viewing and information given by the regional federation officers and NNC staff. 

After the opening of the PPAN exhibits, NNC and the Regional Organization of Nutrition Development Advocates 1, Inc. conducted the press conference through a live radio program of the KBP Forum aired over DZRD Sonshine Radio in Dagupan.

Another highlight of the program was the regional implementation of the PPAN 2017 – 2022 which included the plenary discussion and setting of regional and provincial PPAN Targets and the identification of various strategies and actions by area and level.
