NAOs of Ilocos Sur enjoying the hands-on application of the electronic MELLPI Pro tool during the training roll-out held on March 26-27, 2019 at Hotel Ariana, Bauang, La Union.

Bauang, La Union – The National Nutrition Council Regional Office I (NNC 1) rolled-out the Updated Nutrition Monitoring and Evaluation Protocol or MELLPI Pro Training in the provincial Level on March 26 to 27, 2019 hels at Hotel Ariana.

Provincial, Municipal and City Nutrition Action Officers (P/C/MNAOs), City and District Nutrition Program Coordinators (C/DNPCs), and other Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) from the four provinces served as the participants in the two-day training on how to use the new MELLPI Pro Tool.

Following the Regional Training of Trainers last March 6 and 7 in Marand Resort and Spa, Bauang, La Union, NNC – ROI together with the trained Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) members, PNAOs and DNPCs served as trainer-facilitators.

The training was conducted in four batches. Highlights of each batch were a plenary session to provide inputs on the background and features of MELLPI Pro, followed by a breakout session for the orientation and hands-on training on the new tool, and finally simulation exercises, using data provided by the participants, on the evaluation of LGUs, C/MNAOs, and BNSs.

The new MELLPI Pro is a revised and upgraded tool in evaluating and assessing the progress in the nutritional status in the local level. It emphasizes the a) assessment of Local Government Units’ (LGUs) progress towards compliance to quality standards, b) evidence-based validation, and c) mentoring through joint discussion and action discussion for learning. This includes the evaluation of the LGUs, the BNSs, and a new addition is the evaluation of the Local Nutrition Workers comprised of the NAOs and C/DNPCs.

This replaced the old MELLPI Tool and is expected to be fully implemented this transition year, 2019. GLRB
