Nutrition Month is celebrated annually on the month of July by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 491 known as Nutrition Act of the Philippines to create greater awareness among Filipino people on the importance of nutrition. The nutrition month campaign is spearheaded by the National Nutrition Council in coordination with the local government units, agencies, academe as well as other stakeholders.
This year’s theme focuses on stunting in which expresses the aspiration of Filipino families to have children who are able achieve their fullest potential and can be achieved through unity. The sub message “Iwas ALL din sa COVID-19” is added given the pandemic and the community quarantine is still in effect. There is also a need to ensure good nutrition among Filipinos to improve their resistance against disease and minimize the long-term effects of malnutrition.
Video presentation and press conference will be the planned activities for the launching. The canned video presentation will consist of the introduction and key messages of the theme, testimonies of the beneficiaries of the ECCD-F1K program, and the commitment support of all the regional line agencies.
