Baguio City—A total of 92 nutrition planners and frontline workers coming from the different Local Government Units of LUPang Ilocos Region were trained on World Health Organization- Child Growth Standards (WHO-CGS) held last April 28-30, 2015 in Hotel Veniz. The training aims to capacitate nutrition workers on WHO-CGS, strengthen the implementation of the Operation Timbang Plus and to promote full adoption of the CGS. The training was organized by the National Nutrition Council-I and was funded by the Department of Health- Regional Office.
The training was divided into three batches with Municipal/City Nutrition Action Officers (MNAOs) and selected District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators (D/CNPCs) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) as participants.
In her welcome message, Nutrition Program Coordinator Ma. Eileen Blanco explained that the training is undertaken to ensure accuracy of OPT results and capacitate all P/C/MNAOs on the promotion of optimum child growth and development through the enhanced implementation of Growth Monitoring and Promotion (GMP) and Operation Timbang Plus (OPT+) using the WHO-CGS. She added that after the training, participants are expected to acquire knowledge and skills on nutrition assessment and submit reliable and accurate data.
The facilitators of the training were composed of technical experts on WHO-CGS namely: Ms. Teresita Ramos, PNAO of Laguna; Ms. Jeline M. Corpuz, Nutrition Officer II of NNC- Central Office; Ms. Ma. Eileen Blanco, NPC of NNC-Region I; Mr. Kendall A. Gatan, Nutrition Officer III of NNC-Region I; Ms. Wendy M. Mana-a, Nutrition Officer II of NNC-CAR; Ms. Rosalina P. Estillore, DNPC of La Union, Ms. Jennie B. Apilas, DNPC of La Union; Ms. Rafaela Milagros C. Ducusin, DNPC of Baguio City; and Ms. Lourdes U. Aduan, MNAO of Rosario, La Union.
The participants are expected to re-echo learnings from the training to their barangay health and nutrition partners. GJN/KPAG
