Bauang, La Union- The Local Government of Bauang through its Municipal Nutrition Office successfully capacitated its Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) on the Basic Course for BNSs held on May 24-26, 2021at the Bauang RHU Conference Room.
The said training was attended by 18 BNSs from selected barangays in the municipality.
Ms. Maria Adelfa Fontz, Municipal Nutrition Action Officer of Bauang, on her opening message stressed the importance of the training to the BNSs which is basically to improve and standardize their performance in doing their basic tasks in their respective barangays and to be able to produce improvement in the nutritional status specially among young children.
Several trainers from the region, province and nearby towns extended their support by serving as resource persons considering that MNAO Fontz is still new in managing the BNS program.
The training focused on capacitating and updating the BNSs on their basic tasks including new strategies and innovations that they can apply in this time of pandemic.
The National Nutrition Council-Regional Office I extended its gratitude to the Municipal Government of Bauang, La Union headed by Mayor Menchie De Guzman for initiating the activity despite all the odds brought by COVID-19 and provided technical support and augmentation of resources such as resource persons, reference materials, First 1000 Days tshirts, NNC masks and the likes to the trainers and participants.
Mr. Kendall Gatan, Officer-In-Charge of NNC1 during his lecture on the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition and First 1000 Days during the closing ceremony encouraged and inspired the BNSs to overcome all the challenges in serving their respective community and think of other ways in executing their tasks in this mid of the pandemic.
Another batch will be held the week afterto cover the remaining barangays of Bauang.
Ms. Christie Ferino and Ms. Jovy Mae Penera of NNC1; Ms Jennie Apilas, District Nutrition Program Coordinator of La Union; Ms. Helen Sabado, former MNAO of Bauang and other performing BNSs of nearby towns served as trainer-facilitators during the said training. /CPF
