March 18, 2022- The League of Nutrition Action Officers of Region 1 Incorporated (RLNAOs) in close coordination with the National Nutrition Council -Region 1 successfully conducted its Nutrition Forum and Annual General Assembly held via Zoom. This was attended by a total of 83 members and other local partners from all the 4 provinces and 9 cities of Region 1.  

Mr. Kendall Pilgrim Gatan, OIC-Nutrition Program Coordinator welcomed the participants during the event with a heart-warming message of appreciation to all nutrition action officers in the services rendered for nutrition especially in the time of pandemic.

“The existence of RLNAOs in the past 3 decades is of big help in our fight against malnutrition in Region 1. We urge everyone to maximize the full devolution of social services to increase local investment on nutrition prioritizing the investment in the First 1000 Days and the Tutok Kainan program,” he said.

DOH-CHD1 Regional Director and Regional Nutrition Committee Chairperson, Dr. Paula Paz Sydiongco on her inspirational message congratulated all the nutrition action officers of region 1 as they are of great help in the achievement of 2017-2022 PPAN goals.

“Through nutrition action officers in the region, the local nutrition action plan is to be properly communicated, planned, and applied. You need to organize and activate your local nutrition committees to ensure that all services and interventions are served to all beneficiaries especially during this time of pandemic,” she said.

Ms. Helen Joy Bugaling presented the result of the consolidated 2021 Operation timbang plus and OIC Gatan discussed in detail the NNC Devolution Transition Plan emphasizing the localization of Tutok Kainan Program and the creation of local nutrition offices.

Furthermore, during the General Assembly, Ms. Reygee Rocero, the outgoing acting president presented the Presidents Report while Mr. orlino ibus Jr. presented the Treasurer’s report.

One of the highlights of the activity was the election of vacant position for 2021-2023 RLNAO’s officer. The elected president and vice president are no longer members of the NAO thus special election was done to fill-in the vacated positions.  Mr. Brando Castro from Candon City was elected as President while Mr. Mark Bryan Corpuz of San Esteban, Ilocos Sur as Vice President.

RLNAOs is a SEC registered organization of the Provincial, City, and Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (NAO’s) in Ilocos Region. It has a total of one hundred twenty-nine (129) nutrition action officers who are the dominant person at the local government unit to advocate and implement nutrition programs from the barangay to provincial level. Being the key nutrition program implementer, continuous enhancement of skill and knowledge on nutrition should be observed to help them deliver their commitment on the efficient implementation of various nutrition programs of their respective LGUs. /HJAB
