The continuing “Mayatten Tatta” agenda of this administration has maintained its focus on positive changes in public health and safety, particularly in the field of nutrition. The Local Chief Executive together with the City Nutrition Council’s passion, dedication and resourcefulness contributed to the success of the nutrition program implementation in the City of Urdaneta. We are strengthening the road that has made a positive impact on our children of the future. Through careful planning, seamless execution and constant monitoring we are able to reach milestones.
Our concerted actions helped us achieve our objectives – reducing the number of malnourished children and increasing the number of households eating the minimum level of dietary energy through the following programs:
1. OPERATION TIMBANG PLUS (+)
Decreasing the prevalence of malnutrition from 2017 to the present among pre-schoolers 0 to 59 months old.
2. ECCD F1K PROGRAM
a. Nutrition Counselling / Mothers Class
Maintaining good nutrition campaigns thru sustainable conduct of nutrition classes to pregnant, lactating mothers and guardians of pre-schoolers 0 to 23 months old to advocate Exclusive Breastfeeding and Complementary Feeding. And to create awareness of under-utilized nutritions food ingredients readily available at home, a FOOD DEMO was conducted as part of Mothers Class.
b. Livelihood Program
b. 1 Successful native hogs and goat raising program to eligible beneficiaries was made possible thru the continuous monitoring and technical assistance extended by the City Technical Assistance, Monitoring and Evaluation (TAME) Team and by applying the repayment scheme strategy. This has traversed the current pandemic and prevalence of ASF affecting the hog industry. Additional budget has been allocated to cater to additional beneficiaries.
3. DIETARY SUPPLEMENTATION PROGRAM (DSP)
Ninety days feeding program to nutritionally at risk pregnant mothers, stunted and severely stunted 6 to 23 months pre-schoolers.
4. IMPLEMENTATION OF NUTRITION PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES
Involvement of other departments and agencies like Agricultural, CSWD, Livelihood, DepEd as force multipliers in the implementation of nutrition programs.
The CNC will continue with our efforts to address malnutrition as we transition to the post-pandemic period thru the rehabilitation program of the city government in the relation to nutrition and food production. Rest assured that all our efforts be focused on the First 1000 Days of Life as our strategic intervention to prevent stunting and obesity. We will treat each month, a Nutrition Month in the City of Urdaneta.
