TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, October (PIA) - - Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) region 2 has recognized the exemplary performance and extraordinary initiatives of Local Government Units (LGUs) and some individuals in the implementation of nutrition program in their respective localities.
Rhodora Maestre, nutrition program coordinator, said the awarding ceremony is a tribute to the men and women who have staged hard work and dedication in the implementation of programs that ensure good nutrition among their constituents.
As outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS), Realyn Siriban of San Antonio, Lallo, Cagayan won first place, followed by Marilyn Mebania of Malalam, Ilagan City as second place and Maryann Cataluna of Tuhel, Ivana, Batanes. The Barangay Nutrition Committees of the three barangays were also given due recognition.
On LGU category, Ivana, Batanes won as the most outstanding municipality in the region, Ilagan City bested in the city category and Nueva Vizcaya bagged the award in the provincial category.
On the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) category, Cauayan City was able to snatch its second maintenance award while Quirino province received its third year maintenance award.
Maestre has also announced that Ivana, Batanes; Nueva Vizcaya province and Cauayan City will be recognized in the national awarding as CROWN maintenance awardees while Quirino province will be conferred with the Nutrition Honor Award (NHA), the highest award in nutrition program implementation, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Manila on October 29, 2015.
“We are really thankful to these local officials and barangay nutrition scholars of their untiring efforts in ensuring good nutrition in their localities. I ‘am very proud that we have these dedicated and innovative leaders who are in the forefront of our nutrition programs,” Maestre said as she addressed the participants.
On her part, newly designated RNC chair and newly appointed regional director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Dr. Milagros Morales, expressed her salutation to the awardees for displaying good practices that are worth emulating.
Morales is hopeful that other municipalities will also realize the importance of nutrition program implementation in the locality and prays that chief executives will prioritize further programs and projects that are geared towards the attainment of zero-malnutrition. (Oliver T. Baccay/PIA-Cagayan)
