Sta Fe Nueva, Vizcaya- With the onslaught of Typhoon Lando, the National Nutrition Council with its dedication and commitment to give Nutrition during Emergencies distributed Healthy Pinoy Gourmix to the victims of the typhoon in Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya.
The National Nutrition Council originally planned to conduct its 2015 Batang Radyo Congress in Baguio City, unfortunately, due to the landfall of Typhoon Lando in the municipality NNC team was stranded in the midst of the typhoon.
Despite of the circumstances, NNC R-02 turned the unexpected event into a meaningful one. The agency led by Nutrition Program Coordinator, Ms. Rhodora Maestre, extended their helping hands by assisting the Local Government Unit of Sta. Fe headed by Honorable Liwayway Caramat, in helping the victims of the typhoon as well as the passengers who were stranded due to the unpassable road caused by the calamity.
The team handed over the 25 packs of Healthy Pinoy Gourmix to the municipality which are supposedly to be used for the participants of the upcoming Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon Congress. These packs of Healthy Pinoy Gourmix were used for the Blanket Feeding of the evacuees especially children who are in need of more nutrient attention in times of disaster.
Pinoy Gourmix is a product developed by the Department of Agriculture R02 as a response in combating malnutrition at the same time a food relief during calamities. This product is a complete and smart food having high nutritional value. Hence, NNC R02 recognized its potential as a food commodity during emergencies.
In her statement NPC Maestre emphasized that priorities during calamities is not just ensuring the safety of every citizen but also filling in the nutritional intake of people especially the young ones. In addition, she underscored that the agency through its Nutrition Cluster in Emergencies is extending its commitment in the provision of nutrition during emergencies all over the region.
On the other hand, Mayor Caramat was thankful in the assistance offered by the agency. “I think God purposely planned that your team will be stranded in our municipality in order to help us in this time of distress,” she added. Moreover, she was amazed by the nutrient content of the Healthy Pinoy Gourmix that aided the municipality in its response to the disaster risk reduction program. (John Nestor L.
