IMG 2877The National Nutrition Council, regional and national offices, are set to confer the Nutrition Honor Award (NHA) to this province for its outstanding performance in nutrition program management as shown in the continued reduction of the number of malnourished pre-school and school children for six consecutive years.

The Provincial and Municipal Nutrition Committee members are scheduled to travel to Tuguegarao City last October 15 and to Metro Manila on October 29 to receive the said award.

Luningning Pacudan Rhodes, provincial nutrition officer, said Quirino has successfully sustained its Green Banner Award from 2009 to 2011 and Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) award from 2011 to 2013.

“Our sincerest thanks to our provincial officials headed by Gov. Junie E.Cua for making Health as one of the four pillars of development of the 'I LOVE QUIRINO' program of which nutrition is included as priority concern,” Rhodes further said.

Rhodes added that this is the fruit of the concerted efforts of the Municipal Nutrition Committees who were able to maintain a 90 percent accomplishment in uplifting the nutritional status of the children in their areas.

She also thanked the barangay nutrition scholars, health workers and the barangay nutrition committees for their effective nutrition program management.

"Each of the six municipalities here went through an evaluation: Aglipay & Saguday during the first CROWN validation visit; Maddela and Diffun during the second validation and Nagtipunan & Cabarroguis during the final validation visit," she further stated.

Some barangays, which were identified through draw lots, were also visited by the evaluators for weights validation and project evaluation.

This year’s National Nutrition Evaluation Team was headed by Health Assistant Secretary Bernadita Flores who is also the NNC Executive Director.
