National Nutrition Council Region 2 together with other NNC Regional Offices, NGOs and Central Government offices convened in the recent orientation-workshop on chronic food insecurity(CFI) analysis on 26-29 January 2016 in Tagaytay City.
The orientation-workshop, funded by NNC provided the participants information on the updated IPC (IPC)-CFI Indicators Reference Table and the latest version of the Information Support System (ISS). The workshop groups also completed 3 of the 6 steps in IPC-CFI analysis namely: step 1: Context analysis, step 2: Evidence repository and step 3: Identification of Non-Exceptional Circumstances.
The NNC R-02 is in charge for the analysis of its 3 out of 5 provinces namely: Cagayan, Nueva Vizcaya and Isabela. The interagency IPC analysts are composed of representatives from the Department of Agriculture (DA); Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) and Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) of the Department of Science and Technology; Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA); Office of Civil Defense of the Department of National Defense (DND); National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA); Institute of Human Nutrition and Food and Interdisciplinary Studies Center on Food Security of the University of the Philippines Los BaƱos (UPLB-ISCFS); Action Against Hunger (ACF); World Vision Development Foundation, Inc. (WVDFI); World Food Programme (WFP) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO); and the National Nutrition Council of the Department of Health (NNC-DOH). Ms. Nusha Choudhury, IPC Regional Coordinator for Asia served as resource person with technical and secretariat support from NNC and FAO.
The same participants are expected to reconvene in February to complete the 3 remaining steps: 1) evidence documentation and analysis, 2) classification of severity and identification of limiting and underlying factors, and 3) classification conclusion on Last week of February 2016.
