NPC Collage during Nutrition Month Culmination of Different AgenciesNutrition Month Celebration is the yearly campaign held in most institutions and agecies every month of July to create greater awareness on Nutrition among Filipinos.


The culmination of the Nutrition month activity of John Wesley College, the Department of Agriculture Child Development and Learning Center and the municipality of Sta. Praxedes were conducted last July 27-29 respectively.


The participants of the Sta. Praxedes celebration were component of barangays with their Barangay captains, students from elementary and secondary, parents, and LGUs. However, the celebration of the John Wesley College and Department of Agriculture was participated by both parents and elementary pupils and was facilitated by the school teachers and officials to draw attention to nutrition education and to emphasize the importance of being a healthy person. It also help the parents especially lactating mothers and mothers with below 2 years old children to exclusively breastfeed their babies and to have a complementary feeding practices. This observes that they will know the significance of good maternal nutrition and proper infant and young child feeding practices.


Nutrition Program Coordinator, Ms. Rhodora G. Maestre was invited to be a guest speaker in these activities. One of the highlights of the program was the inspirational talk given by NPC Meestre of National Nutrition Council Region 02. She underscored the 2016 Nutrition month theme: ”First 1000 days ni baby pahalagahan para sa malusog na kinabukasan.” She encouraged the parents especially pregnant women to have a pre-natal check-ups, lactating mothers and mothers with below 2 years old children to become aware particularly to exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months and giving appropriate complementary food after six months while continuing breastfeeding.


NPC Maestre strongly emphasized in her message that adequate nutrition of both mother and child during the first 1000 days will have a positive impact in the child’s physical and mental development. “This is the Golden Window of opportunity in the foundation of the Child’s growth and development” she added.


These activities undertaken do not only focus in informing the students, pregnant women and other individuals on the importance of eating nutritious foods and importance of first 1000 days ni baby but also to promote and encourage the general public to do what’s good for their health.
