Claveria, Cagayan – DZND 97.7 FM Radyo Kalugaran celebrated its 6th year anniversary with the blessing of the new broadcast hub of the radio station and activities aim to decrease prevalence of malnutrition in the area.
On Thursday, March 9, officials and employees of LGU Claveria, Cagayan headed by Mayor Celia Layus and Community Radio Council Headed by Engr. Corazon Estorquia and OIC-NPC Maria Gisela Lonzaga, and staff joined the thanksgiving mass as a kick off activity of the founding anniversary.
National Nutrition Council together with the Municipality of Claveria, Cagayan established Nutriskwela Community Radio Station to help decrease malnutrition prevalence and to use radio as bridge to society in disseminating nutrition and health related information.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Juliet Attiagan, station manager, emphasized the importance of the Nutriskwela Community Radio in its role in giving awareness to people in terms of nutrition updates and activities. She said, “Ang Radyo Kalugaran ay hindi para sa iilang tao lamang, ito ay para sa inyo, sa ating, at para sa Bayan. Patuloy po tayong makinig upang mas maging updated tayo sa mga programang pang nutrisyon sa ating lugar.”
Honorable Celia Layus, in her message, appreciated the unity of her constituents and staff in making to the 6th year operation of Radyo Kalugaran successful. She also congratulated the officers of the Claveria Community Radio Council for their consistent guidance and assistance to the radio station.
One of the highlights of the celebration was the launching of “Sapat na Pagkain at Pangkabuhayan sa Bawat Tahanan,” project of the LGU in coordination with the CRC, this aims to provide families with malnourished children vegetable seedlings, food package and vegetable recipe book to help ensure food security in the household.
Various simultaneous activities were also conducted such as; clinical assessment of undernourished pre-school children and weight monitoring by the Municipal Health Office, supplementary feeding to undernourished pre-school children and Alay Handog kay Kalugaran by CRC and Radyo Kalugaran staff, and lecture on vegetable gardening by the Municipal Agriculture Office.
The Local Government Unit of Claveria awarded a certificate of recognition to the National Nutrition Council- Department of Health in grateful recognition of its continued invaluable technical support and assistance to the radio station. #jnlb
