The Regional Nutrition Committee chaired by the Department of Health Region 02 held its 2nd Quarter Nutrition Committee Meeting cum Team building last 13 June 2017 at the Department of Agriculture- Batanes Experiment Station Conference Room and Pahanevnevan Beach Resort in Basco, Batanes.

The activity was attended by 44 participants, coming from the Regional and Provincial Nutrition Committee members, Nutrition Action Officers and Nutrition Officers from the different provinces of the region.

The RNC also invited the members of the PNC and Municipal Nutrition Action Officers of Batanes to participate in the activities.

The RNC Meeting cum Team Building activities aimed to build camaraderie, improve communication, develop collective strategies, and establish trust among its members.

During the RNC meeting, Dr. Leticia Cabrera, Medical Officer V of DOH R02 presented the prototype streamer design and the RNC’s tentative plan of activities for the 43rd Nutrition Month Celebration. She also discussed the plans and activities for the regional launch of the PPAN 2017-2022 on 26 July 2017 in Cauayan City, Isabela.

OIC NPC Maria Gisela Lonzaga, presented the PPAN 2017-2022, NNC Memorandum on the full implementation of NNC GB Resolution No. 4 S. 2012, Adopting the under-five age group to describe child undernutrition in the Philippines, Revised color code of the Spot map. OIC Lonzaga also presented the RNC Accomplishment for Jan-June 2017 and RNC Plans for July- December 2017. The results of the Search for Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars was likewise presented.

Dr. Valeriano Jesus Lopez, Chair- RNC and Regional Director DOH-R02, stressed that one of the focus of PPAN 2017-2022 is combating the prevalence of stunting in the country. He encouraged the RNC and PNC members, Local Nutrition Action Officers and Nutrition Officers and Coordinators to strengthen implementation of nutrition programs to address the nutritional problems particularly stunting and iron deficiency anemia which are high in the region.

Dr. Valeriano Jesus Lopez committed to provide 2017 Nutrition Month celebration streamer to the Local Government Units.

On lighter part, RNC members and Nutrition Officers participated in the Team Building, it was an interactive and fun activity that motivated them to pool their talents to perform at their best as team players. Team members also discovered that diversity is their greatest asset and trust, cooperation and effective communication are the key to a team’s success. ###mmm
